
Sister Eugenia Calabrese, CSJ Elected to new position Sister.Eugenia Calabrese, CSJ has been elected to the leardershiop team of the sisters of St. Joseph but will fortunately for us still be working at the high school as Fiance and Plant manager.
S. Eugenia had been the Principal of St. Joseph High School for 17 years. The Board of Trustees, Administration and faculty of the school are tremendously grateful to her for her many years of leadership. The SJHS Board of trustees is honoring S. Eugenia with an endowed scholarship named the 'S. Eugenia Calabrese Scholarship'. We wish her all the best in her new position.

Sister Joan Gallagher, CSJ apointed New principal
In september 2007, Joan Galagher, CSJ became the new principal of SJHS.
S. Joan was formaly the Assostant Principal of St. Francis of Assisi elememtary School in the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens section of Brooklyn and last year was an assistant Principal of SJHS. She graduated from Queen of the rosary Academy in Amityville in 1979 and in 1983 graduated from Adelphi University with a major in Physical Education. She also has a master's degree from Brooklyn College in Physical Education and Athletics. She also has a professional diploma in Administration and Supervision from Fordham University. S. Joan grew up in Uniondale, Long Island, amongst a family of eight children. During her tenure at St. Francis, the school was the recipient of the "Catholic schools for tomotrow Award for Innovations in Education". This award was in the are curriculum and instruction with a focus on enviromental education. The school installed solar panels and integrated projects on technology by bringing "green education" to the students.
While her predecessor, Sister Eugenia, is a baseball and METS fan, Sister Joan's favorite sport is basketball-she's a devoted fan of the New York Liberty and the Knicks. In addition to her personal interest in sports and ecological sustainability, she also enjoys gardenign. Sister Joan's vision for the future of the school is to empower young women to be good leaders in the future and to have the curriculum at SJHS which will foster the skills necessary for that. In addition to offering a qaultity program of academics, she wants the school to foster a good understanding in each girls' mind of the Gospel values of peace and understanding.
