The Religious Studies Department at St. Joseph High School reflects overall philosophy of the school itself. The curriculum fosters respect for the uniqueness and dignity of each young woman. It calls the students to heed Christ’s essential advice, “to love one’s neighbor as oneself ". Therefore, emphasis is placed upon developing care and understanding of the Inner Self, while challenging each person to share that same respect toward one another. It does this by exposing the student to basic Christian values as revealed through the teachings of Christ, his ancestors, and those who followed his example throughout history.

It is an inclusive program that embraces all denominations and accepts a big-enough God for all who wish to listen for the revelation of the Divine. The Department accomplishes these goals by offering a progressive program that includes such topics as Christian values, peace education, Scripture, world religions, moral & ethics, social justice, marriage, and family life. Additionally, the curriculum requires that all students participate in community-service volunteer work for at least one year during their attendance at St. Joseph.

Throughout the school year, special programs and liturgies are also developed by students and the faculty to deepen their spiritual experience. Finally, every student participates in at least one day of retreat that is set aside for strengthening of human bonds and prayerful reflection.
